Chairman

I've been cycling 5 years now, when I took it up for commuting to work, after a while of struggling i lost a lot of weight and started to enjoy it, going on longer rides and it became a passion of mine.
I co-founded the club in September 2015 when I realised there was a lack of relaxed, social cycling clubs around.
Rides: Marin Gestalt 2 / Orbea Avant M30

Secretary

I've been mountain biking and road riding for over thirty years and really love riding in North Wales, Belgium and The Picos de Europa - I also love organising trips and every so often some long distance challenges. The next of these is riding the 600Km Bryan Chapman Memorial Audax in 2019 along with 4 other club members. Rides: Planet X Pro Carbon / Kona Rove / Santa Cruz Blur XC

I joined the cycling club in April 2017 in order to get into road cycling, although having cycled my entire life, this was more commuting or riding across Salisbury Plain. My main interests in cycling are hills, going to watch races or following their routes. In 2017, I cycled Ride London raising over £800 for Guide Dogs. Rides: Canyon Ultimate / Mango Point R

In 2015 I signed up for ride
It was so easy peasy, no actually I lied
Since joining the team, it opened a door
I’ve cycled in heatwaves and been cold to the core

I’ve raised money for cancer and rode through the night
In a bid to help sufferers who are too ill to fight
From first aid and secretary for membership folk
I take cycling seriously but love a good joke

I’ve conquered a century and many hills too
Oh the towns and villages that I’ve been through
You can usually hear me from miles away
What a wonderful adventure is all I can say

I joined Darkroom Cycling Club 24th September 2017, but I started road cycling when I was 14 with my local club (Ballymena Road Club). I raced, and time trialled as a school boy and I have loved road cycling ever since. And then in my later years discovered XC mountain biking when I took part in Mountain Mayhem 24hr event. I have since ridden the Ride London 100 three consecutive years the first with a rather badly damaged right ankle which was twice the normal size. I love the social side of DECC club rides but also enjoy getting out and putting in some miles just myself and my bike. Next challenge is Malin Head to Mizen Head. Cycling highlights to date is cycling with Jens Voight the last four years in September around the New Forest and then Guy Martin last October.

My love of cycling confuses my colleagues, who have figured out that I cycle to work come rain or shine despite it not actually being any quicker. I joined the club in the early days, and through the group have made some good friends, had some excellent rides, and pushed myself to improve my cycling fitness. All at an appropriate level of caffieneation. Here is a picture of me enjoying myself on a ride.
Rides: Whyte Sussex; Dawes Horizon; plus MTB of questionable heritage we don't talk about

As a girl cycling was freedom!
As an adult it offers even more - the opportunity to explore (at the very best pace); to get lost and know it’s okay; me time & head space; commuting; to ride in the worst of conditions and know there is a hot shower at the end; to fundraise; and of course there’s the banter!
Looking forward to taking part in the Great British Cycling Festival Sportive in June 2019
Rides: Specialized Diverge/Kona Cinder Cone
